4 Kentucky Jurisdictions Increase Occupational Taxes

Three Kentucky localities are increasing their occupational license fee rates for calendar year 2026, while another increased its rate effective July 1, 2025.

The occupational license fee rate will rise to 2.375% from 2% in Ashland and to 1.2% from 0.9% in Somerset. Both rate changes take effect Jan. 1, 2026.

Walton enacted an ordinance in 2024 to create a 2% occupational tax effective Jan. 1, 2025, but postponedthe start date to Jan. 1, 2026.

Powell County increased its occupational license tax rate to 1.75% from 1.25% effective July 1, 2025, under Ordinance 2025-07.
