Germany Probes Adler Books After Complaint Against Perring (1)

German authorities are examining the balance sheet of embattled landlord Adler Group SA, to help determine whether a short seller that accused the landlord of accounting irregularities and fraud has misled markets.

Financial watchdog BaFin started a probe of the landlord’s accounts after Cevdet Caner, a real estate tycoon whose family holds a large stake in Adler, filed a criminal complaint accusing the short seller of market manipulation. The goal is to help establish prosecutors looking at the complaint whether the short seller’s allegations have merit, according to a spokeswoman for the Frankfurt prosecutor.
