Cigna Ordered to Face Trial Over $6 Million in Covid Test Costs

A group of medical providers accusing Cigna Health & Life Insurance Co. of failing to cover about $6 million in Covid-19 testing costs can go to trial on most claims, a Connecticut federal judge ruled.

Cigna said the lawsuit failed because the providers didn’t properly appeal the denied claims through the administrative processes outlined in the patients’ health plans. Judge Victor A. Bolden disagreed and greenlighted the bulk of the case for trial, saying that Cigna “must affirmatively show that no evidence of these appeals exist” in order to beat the case on these grounds.
