Compatibility Concerns Linger as EU Wraps Up ESG Reporting Rules

The European Commission is close to finalizing streamlined sustainability disclosure standards that will give large companies more certainty over how they will need to report on environmental issues such as greenhouse gas emissions in the EU.

Public comments on the EU standards—revised in response to concern from member countries such as France and Germany that they were too burdensome and would stunt economic growth—are due Wednesday. What remains unclear, however, is whether businesses will have to compile separate reports to meet broader global requirements from the International Sustainability Standards Board, let alone the plethora of nation-specific rules under development worldwide. ...
