Accounting’s largest professional group on Thursday unveiled plans to quickly bolster the dwindling number of CPAs—efforts that include a work-study program and possibly offering the US licensing exam in the Philippines.
The American Institute of CPAs plan builds on earlier drafts and adds in efforts to support federal legislation that would allow the use of 529 college savings plan to pay for the CPA exam and exam preparation. The plan also calls for the AICPA, in tandem with state officials, to support government agencies in hiring qualified accountants and audit firms.
