CPA License Overhaul Gains Steam With Academic Update Proposal

Future accounting students may have to take data analytics classes but would have more flexibility to take courses offered outside their business school walls, under proposed changes to CPA licensing requirements released Tuesday.

The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy is seeking comments on its proposed update to the academic requirements that accountants must meet in order to apply for their license. The changes reflect an ongoing project to overhaul the CPA license and better reflect the technological skills and practice areas accounting requires.
