Crypto Among Possible New Projects for Global Accounting Board

Accounting for cryptocurrencies is among a handful of topics that global standard-setters want to tackle next after they complete pending projects.

Crypto assets are one of four areas that all 12 members of the International Accounting Standards Board agreed Tuesday to look at if they have the time and resources. The board has yet to decide on its next five-year agenda.

Other financial reporting issues for possible new standards projects include: corporate operating segments, how companies account for pollutant pricing mechanisms such as carbon taxes or offsets, and how companies approach accounting in hyperinflationary economies. Some of these topics could ...
