Deloitte China Sues Former Vice Chair With Contract Breach Claim

Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu is suing Derek Lai, the former vice chair of its China operations, and other senior employees in a civil action in Hong Kong, alleging breaches of contractual and fiduciary duties while they were employed with the consulting firm.

The firm claimed Lai “acted on behalf of a competitor business” between July and November 2024 while still employed with Deloitte’s China operations, according to a writ of summons filed Dec. 3 at Hong Kong’s High Court that was seen by Bloomberg News.
