‘EPIC’ Question for Nebraska: Choose a Consumption Tax System? (1)

The week in tax news: Nebraska may face ballot questions next year offering a chance to choose a tax system that would be unique in the US—consumption taxes only—if the EPIC campaign gets enough signatures. Meanwhile, tax credit programs and other devices to support private education raise policy and tax concerns, Colorado enacts tax cuts, and the Minnesota high court finds Revenue Department actions “troubling.”

Nebraska voters could soon have an opportunity to upend the state’s tax code and replace it with an ambitious plan that is untested, unprecedented, and unlike anything operating in the other 49 states.
