European Court Backs PwC in Trademark Dispute

The European Court of Justice on Wednesday backed PricewaterhouseCoopers Belastingadviseurs NV in its battle to win trademark protection for the word sign “TAXMARC”.

The May 4 ruling annuls a July 21, 2021 decision of the Fourth Board of Appeal of the European Union Intellectual Property Office, the bloc’s trademark agency.

The appeal board had dismissed PWC’s appeal, siding with Haufe-Lexware GmbH & Co. KG, a German holder of an earlier trademark of some similarity and opponent of the TAXMARC application.
