Ex-Defense Contractor Released Pending Tax Evasion Sentencing

Former defense contractor Douglas Edelman, charged with orchestrating “one of the largest tax-evasion schemes in American history,” convinced a federal district court to temporarily release him from custody before sentencing.

Two months after his arrest in Ibiza, Spain, Edelman pleaded not guilty to all 30 counts of his indictment, which charged him with evading taxes from 2006 through 2020. Edelman was later detained pending trial after the US District Court for the District of Columbia concluded that he had violated his release conditions by contacting an alleged co-conspirator.
