EY, PwC Come Under Scrutiny in UK Post Office Scandal Inquiry

Ernst & Young UK said Tuesday it will cooperate with an independent investigation ordered by the government into the Post Office Horizon scandal, which saw hundreds of sub-postmasters wrongly prosecuted and sometimes jailed between 1999 and 2015 because faulty accounting software suggested they had stolen money.

EY was the Post Office’s auditor at the time of the Horizon scandal, before being replaced by PwC in 2018. The ongoing inquiry led by retired judge Wyn Williams plans to look at the role of external auditors in the scandal during spring or summer of this year.
