Companies should be let off reporting some sustainability issues if it’s too expensive to gather the information or it could damage them commercially, the International Sustainability Standards Board said at a meeting Wednesday.
All 13 board members present voted for the exemptions. The need for disclosures should be balanced against the cost and difficulty of obtaining data, especially for new and complex areas such as measuring the pollution caused by supplier companies, the board said.
Companies should also be allowed to skip some specific reporting requirements if it would cause them significant commercial loss, the board said.
