First Female Boss to Lead Industry Body for Scottish Accountants

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland named Gail Boag as its next chief executive officer.

Boag will become the first female CEO in the professional organization’s 172-year history, ICAS said Tuesday. She is currently the group’s executive director of learning and market development.

Boag succeeds outgoing CEO Bruce Cartwright starting Jan. 1, 2026. Cartwright will leave ICAS in March 2026 after a transition period.

Boag “has already proven her strong leadership and effectiveness at ICAS,” Cartwright said in a statement on her new role.
