Florida Tax Preparer Arrested for $2 Million Tax Fraud Scheme

Jimmy Desir was charged with 22 counts of assisting in the preparation of false and fraudulent tax returns through his tax preparation business, resulting in an estimated loss of revenue to the Internal Revenue Service of more than $2 million, the Justice Department announced Wednesday.

According to the DOJ, Desir orchestrated a scheme to defraud the IRS by including false entries on his customers’ tax returns, such as false fuel tax credits, false education credits, and made-up business losses on Schedules C, all in an effort to increase his customers’ tax refunds and collect higher tax preparation fees.
