Global ESG Reporting Rules Could Be Imposed From Fiscal 2024

The International Sustainability Standards Board said Friday that its global sustainability reporting rules could be mandatory for companies beginning with fiscal year 2024, acknowledging that it was proposing an “aggressive” timetable.

The ISSB released its proposals for the implementation of its first two reporting standards in preparation for a Feb. 16 board meeting. The new rules, covering climate and general sustainability reporting, should be effective for reporting periods starting on or after Jan. 1, 2024, according to the proposals.

“On first impression, an aggressive effective date may create challenges for endorsement/adoption by some jurisdictions,” the staff paper said
