Grant Thornton Lays Off 70 U.K. Staff in Ongoing Restructuring

Grant Thornton LLP has become the first of the big U.K. accounting firms to announce job cuts, saying that it will lay off around 70 staff in its tax and consulting divisions.

“We are progressing with a restructuring project which was planned prior to the COVID-19 outbreak, but was subsequently put on hold during the lockdown,” Grant Thornton said in a statement Friday. “This involves areas of our Tax and Advisory business where we are unable to achieve the levels of profitability aligned to our business plan and puts the roles of around 70 people at risk.”
