House GOP Jettisons Next Week’s Session as Shutdown Drags on

The House will stay away from Washington next week in a stunning reversal for GOP leaders as they continue to pin the responsibility for ending the government shutdown on Senate Democrats.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) designated Oct. 7 through 13 as a district work period Friday, meaning the chamber won’t hold votes but will meet every few days for pro forma sessions.

The chamber was previously slated to return next Tuesday.

The schedule change could further delay the swearing-in of Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and the bipartisan push to force a vote on releasing files relating to disgraced financier Jeffrey ...
