Houston Drilling Company Sues IRS Over $69 Million Tax Agreement

The IRS is being sued by the parent of Houston-based drilling company Ensco Group, which wants to secure an agreement for a multimillion-dollar tax refund.

Ensco International Inc. filed a complaint against the IRS in the District Court for the Southern District of Texas seeking to recover $69.6 million in income taxes, plus interest from its 2015 and 2018 tax years, saying that the IRS had agreed to the refund but hasn’t paid up. The IRS in the meantime is also seeking to collect $41.8 million in additional taxes plus a $976,000 “failure-to-pay” penalty over taxes from 2014.
