KPMG CEO Advocates for Easier Path to CPA Amid Talent Crisis (2)

KPMG’s top US leader is calling to reform CPA licensing requirements, enabling young accountants to launch their careers a year sooner than under current rules that have fueled an industry talent crisis.

Paul Knopp, CEO of KPMG’s US arm, wants the firm’s accounting recruits to benefit earlier from on-the-job training as data and technology tools reshape the profession. He urged the industry to act quickly.

“The cost of becoming a CPA has become too high, including both the cost of the extra education and the opportunity cost of spending an extra year in school,” the Big Four leader said Wednesday ...
