Mattel Gets SEC Subpoena, Federal Probe on Whistle-Blower Claim

Mattel Inc. received a subpoena from U.S. regulators and an inquiry from federal prosecutors over a whistle-blower’s claim that the toymaker misled investors in financial statements dating back to 2017.

The Securities and Exchange Commission’s subpoena, delivered in December, seeks documents related to the whistle-blower’s letter and the company’s investigation of the allegations, Mattel said in a filing Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney in the Southern District of New York is seeking similar material, the toymaker said.
