New Jersey Eases CPA Mandates as Half of States Adopt Reforms

Half of US states have now relaxed CPA licensing mandates, with New Jersey becoming the latest to provide a faster path to accounting careers in an effort to pad the ranks of professionals serving businesses and local governments.

Gov. Phil Murphy (D), on his last day in office Tuesday, signed into law a pair of bills, A-5598 and S-4493, enabling CPA candidates to qualify for the credential with a standard bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience.
