Public companies would have to share details about operating segment expenses such as cost of goods sold under a proposal US accounting rulemakers will release later this year.
A 5-2 majority of the Financial Accounting Standards Board on Wednesday agreed to issue the plan, which calls for companies to break down “significant” expenses and their amounts per segment. They would divulge the details based on information that is regularly provided to top management as well as what is included in the reported measure of segment profit or loss.
