Private Credit Spurs US Accounting Board Look at Lending Trend

US rulewriters for corporate financial reporting will use their next meeting to examine private credit as demand continues to grow for lending by institutions other than banks.

The Financial Accounting Standards Board’s May 13 meeting will focus on emerging trends related to investment companies, including private credit, following a public request for changes to US guidance, Chair Richard Jones said Thursday at a Baruch College conference.

The discussion will come as the US Securities and Exchange Commission investigates allegations of fraud in private credit firms.
