Private Equity Investment Wave Ignites US Audit Board Scrutiny

The US accounting oversight board will take a closer look at the wave of private equity investments into top CPA firms to examine what risks the ownership change could pose to audit quality.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board review aims to understand how the outside investments could weaken auditor independence and affect audit firm consolidations, Chair Erica Williams said Thursday during a meeting with the regulator’s investor advisory group.

“No matter the structure that they decide to pursue, they have to comply with PCAOB rules and standards,” Williams told reporters on the sidelines of the meeting.
