PwC has bought a leading tax adviser in Australia as it looks to expand its presence in the face of skills shortages.
The Big Four accounting firm’s Australian arm said Monday that it had agreed to buy the specialist tax advisory arm of Greenwoods & Herbert Smith Freehills in a deal expected to close midyear, adding 15 partners to PwC’s Australian tax unit. PwC said it was buying the firm to bypass problems recruiting skilled staff and to add to its existing advisory services.
