SEC Bars Two Ex-KPMG Partners Tied to Audit Inspection Scandal

The SEC barred two former KPMG LLP partners involved in a 2017 audit inspection cheating scandal from appearing before the commission as accountants.

The sanctions, outlined in administrative proceedings released Wednesday, mean Thomas Whittle and David Britt can’t sign public company audits. The agency didn’t specify how long they are barred.

When they were partners at the Big Four audit firm, Whittle and Britt were part of what the Securities and Exchange Commission called a “concerted effort” to use leaked information to improve how the firm fared in the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board’s annual inspections of KPMG’s audits. ...
