A partner at mid-sized accounting firm Marcum LLP authorized the release of scores of audits, including more than 100 blank-check company audits, without having reviewed key aspects of the work, the SEC said in an order Wednesday.
The Securities and Exchange Commission said Edward Hackert failed to properly supervise 204 audits by not reviewing and signing off on audit teams’ work and not consistently assembling a complete set of workpapers detailing the audit team’s efforts for 126 audits. The SEC is seeking an administrative hearing.
Marcum did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
