Advisory firm BDO South Africa Inc. is pulling together a team to tackle the audits of financial-services companies in the country, entering turf traditionally dominated by the so-called Big Four global accounting firms
The consolidation of Grant Thornton under BDO gives the firm scale as the nation’s fifth-largest auditor as South Africa prepares to introduce mandatory audit rotations from 2023. It also comes amid increased scrutiny of the profession following a string of scandals that has seen KPMG South Africa shed clients and another mid-tier participant, Nkonki Inc., shutting its doors.
