Technology, Blockchain Can Help Tax Authorities ‘Drunk on Data’

Estonia has capitalized on using advanced technology to analyze taxpayer data as many companies and tax administrations struggle to deal with a deluge of data, a Ministry of Finance official said.

The country has vastly improved its tax administration by reducing costs and cutting its staff by more than 50 percent by using technology to analyze data, said Dmitri Jegorov, deputy secretary general for tax and customs policy at Estonia’s Ministry of Finance. .

Estonia has a 90 percent success rate for its audits, Jegorov said during a Dec. 3 conference at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington.
