Technology, Marketplace Drive Proposal for New CPA License

Move over tax, audit, and accounting—CPA candidates might soon have a new career option focused on information systems and controls.

The American Institute of CPAs and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy floated a new framework for the CPA license Oct. 28 during NASBA’s annual meeting in Boston. The core of the CPA exam, given to all CPA candidates, would cover all four areas, plus possible advanced sections that would test a candidate’s chosen discipline: tax, business reporting, or systems and controls.
