Trump Administration Directs Federal Agencies to Fire DEI Staff

Jan. 25, 2025, 1:23 AM UTC

The Trump administration Friday ordered the heads of federal agencies to cut federal employees who worked on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility programs.

Agency leaders were told to create plans for “executing a reduction-in-force (RIF) action regarding the employees who work in a DEIA office” and to issue “RIF notices to employees of DEIA offices now,” according to a memofrom Charles Ezell, acting director of the Office of Personnel Management.

The move puts into action executive orders issued earlier this week from President Donald Trump aimed at cutting DEIA programs across the federal government.
