U.S. Companies Will Have to Disclose Government Aid Details

Coming soon to U.S. company financial statements: details about government grants, loans, and incentives to build new headquarters or hire local residents.

U.S. accounting rulemakers agreed Wednesday that companies will have to disclose new information about most types of government assistance, except for breaks related to debt and income taxes.

The move comes after the past year’s pandemic-fueled infusion of government cash into company coffers, with hundreds of billions in assistance that included forgivable loans to small businesses and billions in direct aid to airlines. The new requirements would apply to a broad range of government assistance.
