The UK’s audit watchdog said Monday that it intended to keep its spending and head count flat next year, after several years of rapid growth in the run up to the creation of a new regulator long promised by the government.
The Financial Reporting Council published its draft budget for 2026-2027, showing a 2.9% increase to £74.4 million ($99.6 million) “broadly in line with inflation,” and no change in staffing. This is a marked slowdown from rapid growth in recent years, with the regulator’s budget increasing 20% to £70 million for 2024-2025, according to its latest accounts.
