More than one-third of UK local governments are facing severe financial difficulties, with some at risk of going bust and most not completing full internal audits, a report Thursday said.
The report found that 35% of chief internal auditors at local authorities across the UK anticipated that their authority would probably face financial difficulties that would have a severe impact on services in fiscal year 2025. Eleven percent of the 168 internal auditors surveyed in April as part of the study said they could go bust over the next two years.
