US Audit Regulator Keeping Tabs on Australia Tax Leak Scandal

PwC Australia’s troubles and the firestorm over the alleged leaking of government tax rules is firmly in the sights of the US audit regulator.

The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board is “mindful of what’s going on over there,” Chair Erica Williams said Thursday on the sidelines of a meeting with the board’s main advisory group in Washington, D.C. The board has a broad reach—including inspections and enforcement authority—to oversee the work that foreign auditors perform for US-listed companies.
