During his brother’s wedding reception last October, Nathanaël Cohen slipped away to open his laptop. Crypto markets were crashing, so everything else had to wait.

As festivities unfolded around him, Bitcoin was plummeting and $19 billion in leveraged positions were being wiped out. Cohen spent part of the evening — and the weekend — handling orders, adjusting positions and managing risk for the trading desk he runs.
