Alabama City Lowers Occupational Tax Rate

The Opelika City Council in Alabama voted to lower the city’s occupational tax rate to 1% from 1.5%, effective April 1, according to the city’s website.

The city’s occupational tax, originally set at 1% to fund essential services, was increased to 1.5% in 1991, according to city’s website. This rate had remained unchanged until the recent decision by the city council to lower the tax to its original rate.

The city council’s vote on the resolution to lower the tax rate took place Feb. 4.
