Attorneys General Argue Against Fluctuating-Workweek Proposal

Attorneys general from 17 states and the District of Columbia requested the Labor Department withdraw its proposed rule to change the fluctuating workweek method to calculate overtime in a Dec. 5 letter to the agency.

The compensation that workers receive for overtime work would be reduced and the ability of employers to comply with fair labor laws would be made more difficult by the proposal, the letter said, noting that employees would be forced to work longer shifts for reduced weekly earnings.
