The weekly income thresholds allowing employees to claim exemption from or reduction of Australia’s Medicare levy increased for the 2021-22 tax year, the Australian Taxation Office said Nov. 1.
The income threshold for married employees is A$924 (U.S. $665.12) per week and the threshold for single employees is A$1,009 per week, the office said on its website. The thresholds increase depending on the employee’s number of dependent children or students.
The thresholds increased from A$891 for married employees and from A$973 for single employees, which were in effect from July 1, 2019, to June 30, 2021.
