Australia Modifies Compassionate Leave to Include Miscarriages

Effective Sept. 10, 2021, the Australian government announced that workers will be entitled to two days of paid compassionate leave for a miscarriage. The amendment to the Fair Work Act 2009 was made by the Sex Discrimination and Fair Work (Respect at Work) Amendment Act 2021.

A worker’s current spouse or de facto partner will also be entitled to two days of compassionate leave following a miscarriage.
