Changes to Austria’s parental leave entitlements to comply with a European Union directive take effect Nov. 1 under a law published Oct. 12.
Under the changes (German), the entitlement to parental leave is only 22 months instead of the previous 24 months. The full 24 months can only be reached if leave is transferred between the parents, or if a parent taking leave is single or does not live together with the other parent. Any period of leave that is transferred must be at least two months.
