Brazil Politics: Lula Proposes Annual Minimum Wage Adjustment

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s government will edit a provisional measure to guarantee a minimum wage of 1,320 reais as of May 1. The president will also send congress a bill to formalize the resumption of annual appreciation that combines the rate of inflation and the percentage change in gross domestic project for two years prior to the readjustment, according to a press release from the Presidency.

The decision was announced on Thursday night, after Lula met with Minister of Labor and Employment Luiz Marinho and union representatives at the presidential palace.
