Brazil increased its national monthly minimum wage to a level beyond 1,000 Brazilian reals for the first time, with the 2020 level of 1,039 Brazilian reals (U.S. $257.56) up 4.1% from the 2019 level of 998 Brazilian reals (U.S. $247.40).
The 2020 national minimum wage exceeds the Brazilian federal government’s original projected amount of 1,031 Brazilian reals (U.S. $256.28) for 2020, Brazil’s Federal Senate said Jan. 2 in a news release (Portuguese).
