Brazil Raises National Minimum Wage by 4.1% for 2020

Brazil increased its national monthly minimum wage to a level beyond 1,000 Brazilian reals for the first time, with the 2020 level of 1,039 Brazilian reals (U.S. $257.56) up 4.1% from the 2019 level of 998 Brazilian reals (U.S. $247.40).

The 2020 national minimum wage exceeds the Brazilian federal government’s original projected amount of 1,031 Brazilian reals (U.S. $256.28) for 2020, Brazil’s Federal Senate said Jan. 2 in a news release (Portuguese).

Five states of Brazil have minimum wages higher than the national minimum wage, and the 2020 updates to their minimum wages are to be released later this year. ...
