California City Adopts $15 Minimum Wage

South San Francisco’s hourly minimum wage is to be $15, effective Jan. 1, 2020, under an ordinance that was adopted Aug. 28 by the city council.

Under the ordinance (19-651), employees are covered if they perform at least two hours of work a week within the city’s geographic boundaries and if they are entitled to the minimum wage under state laws. Those affected by a violation of these requirements may be owed back pay, reinstatement, and a $50 penalty for each day the violation occurred.
