California City Passes Highest Minimum Wage Law in Country

The California city of West Hollywood has passed the highest minimum wage law in the country, under an ordinance (21-1168) adopted by the city council on Nov. 15.

The minimum wage increases begin going into effect on Jan. 1, 2022, and the rest of the ordinance’s provisions take effect 30 days after it is passed into law.

The ordinance adds a minimum wage chapter to the city code, and establishes rules for the minimum wage, paid leave, service charges, recordkeeping, and penalties.
