California Establishes Pay Requirements for Freelance Workers

California is establishing pay and recordkeeping requirements for establishments hiring freelance workers, under a law that will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.

Freelance workers are independent contractors who provide professional services under a contract for at least $250, under the Freelance Worker Protection Act. The $250 threshold includes all contracts for services between a freelance worker and a hiring entity within the last 120 days.
