California Grants Disaster Extensions for 2 Counties

Sept. 25, 2025, 4:49 PM UTC

Employers in two California counties affected by recent fires can request extensions to file state payroll tax returns or make payments, the state Employment Development Department said Sept. 24.

The potential extensions apply to Calaveras and Tuolumne Counties and follow a Sept. 19 disaster declaration from Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), the EDD said on its website.

Under the EDD’s policy, affected employers can request filing or payment extensions of up to two months for state payroll taxes, which includes income tax withholding, unemployment insurance, and temporary disability insurance, the department said.
