California will apply its current unemployment insurance rates for 2024 but is increasing the disability insurance withholding rate to 1.1%, according to an update on the state Employment Development Department’s website.
California is also eliminating the disability insurance’s taxable wage base effective Jan. 1, 2024, the department said. Employees will therefore have to withhold 1.1% from all covered wages paid in 2024.
For comparison, employers in 2023 are currently required to withhold 0.9% on all covered wages, up to a taxable wage base of $153,164.
