Colorado Unemployment Tax Rates to Rise in 2021

Colorado’s unemployment tax rates are to increase for 2021 because of the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, a spokesman for the state Department of Labor and Employment said Nov. 17.

Effective Jan. 1, 2021, tax rates for experienced employers are to range from 0.71% to 4.1% for positive-rated employers and from 5.27% to 9.64% for negative-rated employers, the spokesman told Bloomberg Tax in an email. For 2020, tax rates for experienced employers range from 0.58% to 7.4%.

The standard tax rate for new employers is to be 1.7% in 2021, unchanged from 2020.
